10 Things I Wish I Knew About Being an Author I Didn’t Know Before

1. Checking your sales ranks is more addictive than caffeine.
2. Time moves faster when you have a deadline.
3. Shiny New Ideas, or SNIs, will constantly try to distract you from your deadline.
4. Book bloggers and BookTubers are valuable resources to have in your social network circles.
5. Not everybody loves puppies, not everybody loves pizza, and not everybody will love your book.
6. When people find out you’re an author, they don’t hesitate to ask how many books you’ve sold. After a while you’ll have the urge to ask them how much money they made last month, just so they understand how prying that question is.
7. When a TV show or movie features a writer as a character, your family members turn to you with a knowing smile (or sometimes, a roll of the eyes).
8. Every book, movie, or TV show that has a character or story element remotely close to something in your book will make you paranoid that somebody stole the idea—either you or them.
9. Everything you see becomes a potential story. Also, people who know you’re an author will throw ideas at you, suggesting you write the story, as if you didn’t have an impending deadline or SNIs waiting in line in your head.
10. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of holding your book in your hands for the very first time. And that makes it all worth it!

Something happened to two boys over sixty years ago. The backwoods of Alabama in the 1940s set the stage for this edge of your seat thriller. Boogie and Trapper are best friends, known about town for their wild, annoying, obnoxious, and hysterically funny antics. Roaming the woods, swimming in the creek, playing Double Dare, smoking, cussing, drinking beer, and always trying to outdo each other. These two thirteen-year-old boys growing up in this time period have freedoms that would be considered absolutely crazy by today’s standards. Riding their bikes on a drizzly April day, goofing off and having fun for hours, looking forward to the boy/girl party they are excitedly anticipating later today, rumors of kissing games and more make them silly and giddy. Then the day goes terribly wrong. They have found themselves in a desperate “no way out” situation. They are thrown into a horrific event that moves faster than a speeding bullet, a wild, white knuckled roller coaster ride, RUN Boogie, RUN, RUN…………….
A suspenseful, scary thriller, tragically horrific, it is a story that must be told, a promise that must be kept. Their lives will be changed forever – can they get away, and will they ever live to tell the tale?

There’s something fascinating about reading The Boogie Trapp. Maybe its because of its time setting or the fact tht its about a secret that was buried long time ago… and its based on true events.

That’s what pushed me to read this book. From the Prologue, I was instantly hooked. I was tempted to skip some chapters so I can finally KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I wanna know what is the secret that Trapp and Boogie hid for a very long time. Now that one of them decided to tell the tale, I feel privileged. I also wasn’t disappointed of what the BIG secret is because.. well, yeah, its big! And I guess one of the biggest aspect here that need to be focused on is the friendship between Trapp and Boogie. It really was great to watch how it all started and tested.

I gave it a 3 because I think the book might still need a little adjustment. The way the author described and wrote it was great. You can really see the picture and feel it. But there were some things that I find to be unnecessary and a bit repetitive.

Overall, The Boogie Trapp is an enjoyable read. If you want a deep and cozy read with part mystery and part thriller, this book suits you!!

Kerry Copeland Smith is the pseudonym of Harold (Hal) W. Brewer and also his alter-ego, Brewer will readily confess. “He was there waiting for me when they pulled me from my mother’s womb,” Brewer laughingly says. “Boogie is older, smarter, tougher and more daring, so I have been very fortunate to have had him around all these years.” Brewer, the youngest of four children, grew up in the small coal mining town of Bradford, Alabama, where his father was employed as a coal miner. His mother, a “stay at home mom,” was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader, and strict disciplinarian, who “kept close tabs on me,” Brewer states. Brewer attended Mortimer Jordan High in Morris, Alabama and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He was hired by Montgomery Ward Co. in 1964 and spent the next thirty-two years as an executive, in both their Retail and Logistics’ division. After retiring from the retail business in 1996, he formed his own Real Estate Investment Co., which he managed until fully retiring in 2008. “Boogie was there with me every step of the way, Brewer says. When things weren’t right and the going was tough, I called on Boogie and things got straightened out!” Brewer is also an accomplished artist. His paintings hang in numerous homes throughout the south. He currently lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife Tammie and their three cats. He has two sons (from a previous marriage), three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

SERIES REVIEW: Time Between Us & Time After Time by Tamara Ireland Stone a.k.a where is my own bennett cooper?

Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet: she lives in 1995 Chicago and he lives in 2012 San Francisco. But Bennett has the unique ability to travel through time and space, which brings him into Anna’s life, and with him a new world of adventure and possibility.
As their relationship deepens, the two face the reality that time may knock Bennett back to where he belongs, even as a devastating crisis throws everything they believe into question. Against a ticking clock, Anna and Bennett are forced to ask themselves how far they can push the bounds of fate, what consequences they can bear in order to stay together, and whether their love can stand the test of time.
Fresh, exciting, and deeply romantic, Time Between Us is a stunning, spellbinding debut from an extraordinary new voice in YA fiction.

Where do I even start???! I just LOVE this book so much. I miss this kind of feeling towards a book. When you love it so much you can’t help but gush and gush about it. That’s what I’m about to do right now. So please, be ready for that.

So. Time Between Us is a love story. A time travel love story. I don’t really have a good record on time traveling books, I think the last book I’ve read with the same plot line is The Here and Now and uhhh, I didn’t like it. At all. So I’m not really expecting anything in here. But it surprised me. And now I’m head over heels. From the Prologue, I know that I’m going to like it already. I just know. I was invested instantly. It’s the kind of Prologue that will not let you close the book up until you’re halfway through or you’re done. The writing is captivating. The characters are (thank the bookgods) easy to relate to with realistic voices. No one is annoying. No one got on my nerves. Everything flows easily and it’s not hard to get lost inside Anna’s head. (She’s our narrator)

Okay so, Anna lives in 1995 (trivia that you’re probably not interested in but I’ll say it anyway: I was born that year. HAHA) Okay, so Anna is running in her usual route at 1995 when someone caught her eye. A guy that is sitting in a bench is looking at her oddly.. like he already knew her. And that bugged Anna. So when the guy showed up in her school and introduced himself as Bennett, Anna knew that this guy is hiding something and that somehow, she can’t stay away from him. She’s actually interested about everything about him.

You know, it’s not a secret that I’m very picky about MC’s. They affect my reading a lot and sometimes even though the plot is great, but the MC is downright annoying?! I’ll just DNF it. But Anna is so darn likeable. She’s so sweet and genuine and very.. lovable. Like, it’s really hard not to be mesmerized by her. Bennett on the on the other hand is not that different. He’s so… asdfghklrhfuhfubye. I cannot even describe it.

Now, the plot. I don’t know if it’s just me but I’m pretty skeptical when it comes to genres like these:  fantasy, paranormal and especially, SciFi, which is the genre of this book. When I learned that Bennett is the one who can travel through time, I already want an explanation..Like, how?? How can he do that exactly? Is he some experiment from a lab? Is he some math genius who studied time stuff? WHAT. Good thing, our main character isn’t some dense dimwit and she knows how to ask the right questions. But I was really disappointed when I got some answers. Yeah, maybe that’s my super little problem with the book. I just want some explanations, you know? But my love is over powering my doubts so…

Overall, Time Between Us is a gorgeous read. Some may call it simple or not extravagant but  it made me smile, made me believe in the power of love and made my heart light and singing (pure gushing, I warned you). Everything is wonderful and stunning, pure and striking. Time Between Us is not a book to be overlooked, make a time for it!

5  ★★★★

Calling Anna and Bennett’s romance long distance is an understatement: she’s from 1995 Chicago and he’s a time traveler from 2012 San Francisco. The two of them never should have met, but they did. They fell in love, even though they knew they shouldn’t. And they found a way to stay together, against all odds.
It’s not a perfect arrangement, though, with Bennett unable to stay in the past for more than brief visits, skipping out on big chunks of his present in order to be with Anna in hers. They each are confident that they’ll find a way to make things work…until Bennett witnesses a single event he never should have seen (and certainly never expected to). Will the decisions he makes from that point on cement a future he doesn’t want?
Told from Bennett’s point of view, Time After Time will satisfy readers looking for a fresh, exciting, and beautifully-written love story, both those who are eager to find out what’s next for Time Between Us’s Anna and Bennett and those discovering their story for the first time.

I don’t know how Tamara does it, but her book just keeps getting better and better. I’m in love with everything about this sequel. It is true. That is a 5 star rating you are seeing. I was thinking while I’m writing this review that maybe 5 star is being too generous. So I started skimming the book again and the feels you know? It just hit me. 78889-how-do-I-words-gif-I-cant-cont-jsEH   And it just keeps hitting me.. also, after finishing the book, I was satisfied. Contented. And just so darn pleased. I don’t want to spoil anyone so I’m going to keep my review of Time After Time short and simple. First, as I said above, it was satisfying. Usually when the first book was so so so good, it always worries me because there’s a chnace that the sequel will disappoint me. But I wasn’t. In fact, it intensified my love for the book. This sequel is about the up’s and down’s of Bennett and Anna’s relationship. Ever wonder how is it like to have ‘long-distance relationship’? Well, here it is folks, and trust me, it is NOT SIMPLE.

“So many people take proximity for granted. We just want to be in the same place at the same time.”

And that is so freaking true. “Oh I miss him so much!!!” – says the girl who just got a text from his boyfriend .035343 seconds ago. Anywaaay, this book broke my heart a little, it made me ache.. Bennett and Anna finally realized that this relationship that they have is not normal. (Of course they already know that before, but now they have to face it and make some decision about it) So, there were things that has hapened, there were tears from Anna (me too, I can’t help it) And I love Bennett so I’m going to say this, he’s been a little douchey here. Well, at least he has the decency to admit it. Time After Time was on Bennett’s POV and even though he made some douchey and stupid move, he’s love for Anna, actually, their love for each other always win through.

“I don’t need a calendar. I don’t care if you’re here for big events or how long you stay each time. I just need to know that you’re coming back”

tumblr_lrn6q2acKY1qgp55r (MINI SPOILER) There was this scene, where they went to Paris, and you guys, my heart just melted. It’s so sweet. Everything about that scene makes me love Love. Ahhhhhh.

“Wouldn’t it be funny if we’re the ones that start the whole lock thing?”
“Maybe we do.”
“I like that,” she says.I don’t have the heart to tell her that in 2010, all the locks will be removed. Or that, in 2011, they’ll start reappearing. They can cut our lock off. We’ll just come back here together – in 1998 and 2008 and 2018 – and replace it every time it gets removed.

If you’re tired being frustrated and annoyed about the main characters you’re reading right now, or you just want to fill your heart with happiness, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ THIS BOOK.  And I’M SORRY BUT I STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY IS THIS NOT A MOVIE?! IT IS SO DESERVING.

Winter in Black Orchard, Wisconsin, is long and dark, and sixteen-year-old Vayda Silver prays the snow will keep the truth and secrecy of the last two years buried. Hiding from the past with her father and twin brother, Vayda knows the rules: never return to the town of her mother’s murder, and never work a Mind Game where someone might see.
No one can know the toll emotions take on Vayda, how emotion becomes energy in her hands, or how she can’t control the destruction she causes. But it’s not long before her powers can no longer be contained. The truth is dangerously close to being exposed, placing Vayda and her family at risk.
Until someone quiets the chaos inside her.
Unwanted. That’s all Ward Ravenscroft has ever been. To cope, he numbs the pain of rejection by denying himself emotions of any kind. Yet Vayda stirs something in him. He can’t explain the hold she has on him–inspiring him with both hope and fear. He claims not to scare easily, except he doesn’t know what her powers can do. Yet.
Just as Vayda and Ward draw closer, she finds the past isn’t so easily buried. And when it follows the Silvers to Black Orchard, it has murder in mind.

“Cardinal Rule: You never know who’s watching, and I promise you someone is always watching”

Well, how do I start this? I guess by saying that I completely fell in love with that cover! I just know that I have to read it. And I am so lucky to be part of this tour and to review A Murder of Magpies.

Vayda and Jonah are twins. Everywhere they go, they can’t escape the fact that people find them strange. Well, they kind of are. Both of them has their own mind game that they got from their mother. And as much as they try to fit in and hide their abilities, some people can’t help to notice.

I really love the atmosphere in this book. I think I need to read more books with gothic theme because if they are as good as this, I WANT TO READ ‘EM. The author really got the intriguing and mysterious vibe. The setting and the characters was fleshed out. I love how every time I get back to reading it, I feel like I am being transported to where Vayda and Jonah is.  This story is on dual Pov’s. One is from Vayda, which I absolutely adored. There’s something about Vayda that is so badass. But she’s also so nice and caring. She’s a well written character and I can’t wait for more of her in the following books. (i don’t know yet if there are following books, but I AM HOPING) the other Pov is from Ward’s. Oh, this boy confuses me still. I have a feeling that there’s more to him. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THAT. And Vayda isn’t the only character that I loved, Ward and Jonah are incredible. They have their own characteristic that makes them unique and distinct.

I’m a fan of the authors writing. It bothers me sometimes when the genre of the book doesn’t match the way it was written. Well, this is brilliant. The tone, the pacing and like I mentioned above, the atmosphere was perfect.

Reading A Murder of Magpies will really make you think that the author thought everything through. It’s haunting, mystifying and not to mention, totally sexy. This book is full of intrigue with dark and rich characters that I can’t get enough of. It’s hard to believe that this is Sarah’s debut novel. We all better watch out for Ms Bromley.
