Practice Makes Perfect.
Everyone at Hundred Oaks High knows that career mentoring day is a joke. So when Maya Henry said she wanted to be a rock star, she never imagined she’d get to shadow *the* Jesse Scott, Nashville’s teen idol.
But spending the day with Jesse is far from a dream come true. He’s as gorgeous as his music, but seeing all that he’s accomplished is just a reminder of everything Maya’s lost: her trust, her boyfriend, their band, and any chance to play the music she craves. Not to mention that Jesse’s pushy and opinionated. He made it on his own, and he thinks Maya’s playing back up to other people’s dreams.
Does she have what it takes to follow her heart—and go solo?

“Yeah, yeah, I’m from Tennessee, where its a crime if you don’t love country, but I deep, rumbling beats and singing loud and fast and hard. I do not like closing my eyes and crooning to a cow in the pasture.”

I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS MY FIRST BOOK FROM MIRANDA KENNEALLY!! Excuse me while I purchase her other books. I am missing out, I know that now. It definitely shocked me to find out that Miranda isn’t on my author-to-stalk list when her books are the kinds I inhale like crack. Books like Jesse’s Girl keeps me alive!!! And I have authors like Miranda to thank for that. You may think that Jesse’s Girl is another YA contemporary romance, but I’ll stop you right there. Because Jesse’s Girl is absolutely more than that, it has a heart.

Jesse and Maya is absolutely delightful to read. Maya, especially, is a refreshing main character with a very much engaging voice. She has that badass and yet adorable persona nailed. She’s also a surprise too since I expected a southern sweetheart (I mean, look at the cover) but turns out, Maya isn’t the southern sweetheart type. Usually, I’m not into the spunky kind of girl, but Maya changed me. She made me admire her so much with her caring heart, big dreams and witty and sassy comebacks.

Jesse didn’t have to do much. We all know that musicians are my top favorite heroes, but a country artist? With an attitude like Jesse? Which isn’t great at first but still!! My heart breaks for the guy. He’s all hard and sometimes jerky on the outside but on the inside? Totally a marshmallow coated with lots and lots of sugar. Jesse knows how to deliver a speech that will melt every part of you and that, my friends, is why Jesse deserved to be loved.

What I like most about Jesse’s Girl is Miranda’s extraordinary power to make me forget my bladder and hunger. Apparently, once you sit down with a Miranda Kenneally book, you’ll either finish it NOW or… there’s no other choice, really. You’ll finish it on one sitting because you’ll be compelled to do so. See how powerful Miranda is? I really don’t mind, tbh.

Do I really have to say it? I AM SO IN LOVE with this book and I think- scratch that, I know you will be too! Its optimistic, smart and full of heart. Filled with rich characters that will touch your inner core and relationships that are neatly and realistically done, Jesse’s Girl is everything your fangirl heart wants and needs.

MONTHLY RUNDOWN #006: JUNE2015: books-hitting-the-screens, co-blogger news, uncle rick is back!, red queen movie?

Welcome everyone to Her Book Thoughts’ Monthly recap. In which I look back and summarized what happened on the blog this past Month. See past posts here.

Can you believe it!!? I actually posted a MONTHLY RUNDOWN. I feel like crying! The last time I did a HBTMR is last year (I checked) and I honestly don’t remember anymore why I suddenly stop doing it but here’s making up for it. Yep, this might be a long one! Here’s what I have for you this issue:

  •  Reviews!
  • JUNE bookish news!
  •  Blog news!
  •  Paula news!
  •  not in a particular order.

The amount of books I read this June is making me cry. And not happy tears. According to my bff, GR, I only read 16 books.16! Lowest so far. Anyway, here they are, all are linked to my review. I also posted here the books that Rhea posted! Check it out if you missed them.

The July book tours are all on the side bar now. Are you looking forward to a particular tour? They’re all exciting!!!

Let’s move on to Bookish News. June has been full of buzz. From book to movie news to latest releases, JUNE WAS C-R-A-Z-Y. Some of these news, you might already know. But maybe you missed some of them too. And this is where I enter. What books are hitting the big screen? A latest release that we should be ALL excited about? How about cover reveals to drool over? I HAVE IT ALL FOR YOU!

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The Queen has spoken.

Harry Potter series may have ended long ago, but potterheads will forever be waiting for whatever news that our beloved queen will reveal. And she never fails in making us happy.

On June 26th, Jo announced on Twitter that there’ll be a new play in Harry’s world titled ‘Cursed Child’

Now let’s all take a moment and let that sink in. I mean, if this isn’t the perfect reason to move to London, I don’t know what is! You can read more of this news in here.

And because our queen is a giving fairy godmother, she also gave us a little bit of a Dursley backstory.

Have you ever wondered why they’re so mean towards Harry? I always thought thst it was just because they’re designed that way butNOOOOO. There’s an explanation for that! For more of this, read here

Up until now, I still can’t believe that this is all happening. But it is! The cast is starting to come all together. And I must say that they’re looking fantastic (get it??)

Eddie Redmayne is already confirmed (YES!) to play the role of Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who travels to New York City to find and document magical creatures.640_eddie_redmayne_45866033

And now Ezra Miller is already in early negotiations for the role of Jacob, the secondary male lead opposite Eddie Redmayne. 4159714-4715269047-600fuI’m not sure, but I remember that Jacob is the villain in this story. Ezra is not yet confirmed in playing the part, but I’m rooting for him!

Don’t forget that Katherine Waterston is also confirmed to the role of an American witch named Porpentina! downloadKate Upton, Dakota Fanning and Saoirse Ronan are also eyed to be part of the film as one of the secondary characters alongside Katherine. Check out this link for more.

Well, this one isn’t that surprising anymore. Author John Green just announced on Twitter that LOOKING FOR ALASKA has found its director. So yes, its really happening!! I knew from the start that we will have JG collectibles.

Salute to you Mr. Jg. Don’t even think that I’m not watching you slowly taking over the world!!!!!!

The only drama that works for me.

Uh, step aside teenage highschool drama queens, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield is about to have a come back. rs_560x422-150624201910-560.Sweet-Valley-High.jl.062415 (1)Well, okay, its not confirmed yet. But you bet your butt that all of my body part are crossed! I so want this to happen!! Fangirl with me and read this news.

Emma Watson and Tom Hanks in a movie.

Emma Watson will star alongside Tom Hanks in a movie adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novel “The Circle.Emma-Watson-GettyI actually haven’t heard of this book before but if its worthy enough to be a movie and worthy to have Emma and Tom as lead roles, then I think its worth reading. Add it on your TBR people.

Red Queen + Elizabeth Banks = ??

Yes… I STILL haven’t read this book. Stop throwing potatoes at me because I’m fixing that. Hopefully, before the movie comes out? What do you guys think? Should Elizabeth Bank go for it? 17878931 elizabeth_banks1

Who do you think should star in Red Queen film? Check out the news in here

Tahereh announced the news herself on Twitter. I’m pretty sure there’s details surrounding this news, but I didn’t like the book at all to research more. YAY for the fans though, ABC is known for outstanding series so I’m confident that they’ll do a great job. Unless, of course, they screw up the cast.

UNCLE RICK IS BACK (not that he went away in the first place)

I am crying….. CRYING! Of excitement. Of WANT. This book sounds so awesome I cannot even. And this is my favorite cover fromh him so far. Look at the beauty!

If you are not aware that I launched a new feature here on the blog…. WHY? 🙁 Author Takeover has published 8 issues already and they’ve been awesome so far!

Don’t forget to keep coming back because I’m not kidding, the upcoming authors are just rockin’ epic. All nice people with to-die-for books.

I also searched for a coblogger this past month and I’ll be announcing the two of them on our Blogoversary which will be in JULY 15th! Please please be there and join the celebration. There’ll be lots of Thank You’s, giveaways and virtual hugs that will happen!

I just realized that this is my last year as a teenager! MY LAST YEAR! And it just freaked me out a little bit because there’s so many things that needs to be done you know? So many! I need to ride a rollercoaster already.

Also, did you know that I’m someone’s official Publicist? Thank you so much to O.E. Boroni for trusting me and treating me as a real friend even though we are miles apart. Woman, YOU CAN COUNT ON ME. Me and Faye are also planning to do a video collab! I’ll be the one with a paper bag on her face! What do you think? Should we go for it?

Well, there you go! I did it, I actually did it. How was your month friends? Any particular news that got you excited? Tell me how your JUNE was like! I wanna hear it 🙂

Welcome to the sexy, crazy, wildly unpredictable world of modern matchmaking, where fixing up strangers is part of the job—but falling in love is an occupational hazard…
He’s The Perfect Catch.
Blake Donovan is tall, handsome, rich, and successful—so why would a guy like him need a matchmaker? Andrea Dawson has no idea, but a job is a job. After being blackballed from a career in marketing, Andrea agreed to use her unique profiling skills to play matchmaker out of pure desperation. But when she meets her highly eligible—and particular—first client face to face, she wonders what she’s gotten herself into…
Is She His Perfect Match?
Blake knows exactly the kind of woman he’s looking for—and it’s the total opposite of Andrea. Though smart and undeniably sexy, she is simply too headstrong for a man who’s used to being in charge. Still, Blake’s blood pressure rises whenever she’s near him. How can he explain the smoldering attraction that sizzles between them? And how can Andrea deny she’s feeling it, too? Maybe, just maybe, they’ve finally met their match…

“She was nothing he’d expected he’d ever be attached to and yet he was more into her than anything he could imagine”

Love really do come in unexpected time. You don’t look for it, it finds you! And Blake and Andy is a living testament to that. Okay, fictional testament.

Blake is looking for a wife and what is Blake is searching for is everything Andy is not. And yet, when these two had a moment, sparks happened and try as they might, they can’t ignore it! I love how from the moment they met, the chemistry between the two characters can already be felt. I was grinning ear to ear because of their banter and without hesitation, McGee already made me root for them. Its from that moment that I figured it out, if these two doesn’t end up together… I’m gonna cut someone and then cry a river.

I’m instantly hooked the moment I read how broke Andy is. Andrea or Andy or Drea is wonderful heroine. She’s witty, she acts her age and she’s that kind of woman who knows how to make a guy work for it. Its refreshing to read a voice of a woman who actually DO what’s on her mind. She knows what she wants, she decides, and she stands firm in that decision. Don’t you just love heroines who doesn’t complicate her life even more?

Now, Blake on the other hand is a different story. It took me awhile to warm up to him and not just because he acts like an ass most of the time, but because he’s the one who’s making the complications! We actually get POV’s him in here too and thank you Laurelin McGee for that. I understood Blake even more and yes, I sympathized. Its actually kinda sad. I wanted more of a backstory for him though.

Miss Match is really a must read for every Romance reader. You’ll inhale this one up. If you’re looking for a smart and sexy novel that will keep you on your toes till the very end, Miss Match is for you. Friday night, this book and a snack. You’re all set!

He caught his date smiling at him over her coffee cup. Her teeth were so perfectly straight and white, it almost seemed unnatural. He wondered if he should attempt conversation again. Drea had suggested, though, that talking about himself was not the best way to attract a woman. Listen to them instead, she’d said, or ordered, rather.

The problem with that advice was that this woman didn’t speak. At all. She hmm’d and ah ha’d, but that was the extent of her conversation. Even when he asked a question, he’d receive only a giggle in response.

She should be the perfect woman—attractive and quiet. And bland.

Maybe he didn’t want a quiet woman after all. Though Andrea argued with him at any chances he got, at least she was entertaining. Oftenoverthelastweeks,he’dactually

looked forward to seeing her in his office. Her opinions might be overbearing, but her insight was also usually spot-on.

Andrea also wouldn’t expect him to order for her, as all the other ones did. What was that anyway? A test of some sort? How was he possibly supposed to know what she’d want when he’d never met her before that very evening?

He’d tell Andy about that the next day. She’d get a kick out of it.

Now why did he just refer to her asAndy? Andrea was more suited to her looks. Admittedly, the more he’d gotten to know her, the moreAndyseemed to fit her personality. But it was a hell of a lot of fun to see her feathers ruffle when he called herDrea.

The waiter came then to ask if there’d be anything else. “No, just the bill.”Blake said that a little quicker than

he should have. Andrea would have disapproved.“If you would, please,” he added, hoping to soften his obvious anxiousness. Actually, being in charge of the meal meant he could just demand the check like that. This was exactly why he continued to do the ordering for dates.

There. That was better.Andreawouldbeproud.Hewas nice-ish,and making sound business decisions.

Blake paid the bill and looked to his date—what was her name again? Sally? Cindy? Cinnamon? No matter,he’d simply leave it out when addressing her. “Are you ready then?”

“Hmm,” she replied.

It had to mean yes since she put her napkin on the table and rose from her seat.

Blake followed, a small smile gracing his lips at finally ending the miserable charade of a meal.

It wasn’t until later—much later—when he was tucked into his bed and he’d completed a chapter in his latest noir detective novel that he realized he’d spent the night

thinking more about his matchmaker than his proposed match.

He needed to get it together.
