A dreamcaster with the ability to channel creatures from her nightmares, headstrong and cynical Kalila Montgomery longs for a peaceful, picket-fence life…until the man literally of her dreams kidnaps her. Survival quickly becomes her number one goal, yet a growing attraction to the man in her nightmares is impossible to ignore. While she fears he will kill her, other, more terrifying enemies surround her, and Kalila succumbs to his scheme to escape. She may be his one hope for freedom…A deadly combination of power, cunning, and cold-hearted charm, Lydon v’al Endrian fears nothing. Feels nothing. Chained to a brotherhood of men with the supernatural ability to invade dreams, he hunts dreamcasters to be harvested for their dreams and killed. His target: Kalila Montgomery. But Kalila awakens an undeniable dark desire and a longing for a freedom long-lost. To gain everything he craves, Lydon must seduce Kalila before his plot is discovered…a hopeless challenge which, if failed, will earn him a death-sentence. Caught up in a dangerous world of secrets and obsession, doubt and betrayal, Kalila and Lydon face the nightmare of their lives, where love will either deliver them—or destroy them both.

Thank you for stopping by at Her Book Thoughts today, C.J! I’m so excited to have you! We’re excited to know you and your book better.
And thanks for having me! I’m super-psyched to be on Her Book Thoughts!!
Kalila is a very pretty name, can you share where or how did you come up with that and decided that as your protagonists name? Do you have a particular muse for Kalila? How about Lydon?
Originally, Kalila was Lily…until an editor told me I shouldn’t have two main characters with the same letter for their first names. I dunno. I thought Lily and Lydon sounded good together, but I took her advice. Since her nickname is Lils, I had to find a name to work in that arena, which narrowed my options quite a bit. I saw the name Kalila, and bam! I knew it was right.
I didn’t have a particular muse for Kalila, but it’s no secret I adore Alexander Skarsgård. Lydon definitely has some Alex physical characteristics going on.
Which idea came first, writing about dreamcasters or writing in Paranormal/Fantasy genre? Is that the Genre that you’ve always wanted?
Definitely fantasy/paranormal! I’ve always been fascinated by all things medieval and magical (castles and swords – huzzah!), so combining the two loves of my heart with romance was a no-brainer. Although, I did stray from the medieval elements with Wonderfully Wicked and focused more on the paranormal. A combo of all three is my favorite type of tale!
What is the hardest part in writing Wonderfully Wicked? And the most exciting part? Any particular moment in your writing process that you want to share?
The love scenes just slay me! I bet I could write five chapters of action to one love scene, no problem. I get all meticulous and study each word in love scenes to make sure the emotions and actions are perfect without being too mushy or cheesy. Slows a girl down, you know?
The most exciting part for me is the HEA. I love that moment when the characters both realize they’re meant for each other, can’t live without the other, and click into place. Sigh…
Your book is about a dreamcaster and a brotherhood of men known as V’alkara (which I personally just heard in this novel for the first time) What kind of research did you have to do to make the story seem believable?
Research? What’s that? 🙂 Actually, the only research I conducted surrounded nightmares and those who suffer from them. There are people out there who only dream in nightmares, which sucks for them! Sleep is such an important part of being healthy, both physically and mentally. This research led me on a tangent to sociopaths and I learned how some sociopaths have lesions on their brains. That interesting little tidbit winds up in Wonderfully Wicked.
Is Wonderfully Wicked part of a series? Do you have any future projects that you can tell us about?
Yes! Wonderfully Wicked is the first book in The Wicked Series. I recently finished the rough draft of Beautifully Burned (Daxen’s story) and hope to have it polished up and off to my agent soon. The next story is already in my head and burning holes in my mind to get out. I also have another medieval fantasy that, if all goes well, will make it out into the book world next year *crosses fingers* and another NA fantasy stewing. So many stories, too little time!
In three words, how can you describe Wonderfully Wicked?
Dark steamy joyride. Shew! That was hard!
What are you reading right now? Any author you’re currently following?
I just finished Iced by Karen Moning last week (Karen Moning can do no wrong in my eyes) and I’m starting a fantasy romance by J.L. Madore, Ursa Unearthed. It’s the next in her Scourge Survivor series. I loved Blazed Ignites, so I’m excited to read more from Ms. Madore.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Readers rock. Truly. Without readers who take a chance on new authors, the writing world would be a sad, lonely, curled-up-with-chocolate-in-the-closet-corner kind of place. To everyone who has taken the time to read Wonderfully Wicked: I LOVE YOU FOREVER!!
C. J. Burright was born and raised in Oregon and loved it so much she never left. While she has worked for years in a law office, she chooses to avoid writing legal thrillers and instead leans toward urban fantasy, paranormal romance, or—since all things medieval and magic fascinate her—fantasy romance. A member of Romance Writers of America and Secretary for the Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal special interest chapter, C. J. also has her 4th Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and believes stories should always include a gratuitous fight scene. In what spare time she has, she enjoys working out, reading, gardening, and rooting on the Seattle Mariners with a nice glass of wine. She shares a house with her husband, daughter, and a devoted herd of cats.
