BLURB FROM GOODREADS:

It’s the accident season, the same time every year. Bones break, skin tears, bruises bloom.
The accident season has been part of seventeen-year-old Cara’s life for as long as she can remember. Towards the end of October, foreshadowed by the deaths of many relatives before them, Cara’s family becomes inexplicably accident-prone. They banish knives to locked drawers, cover sharp table edges with padding, switch off electrical items – but injuries follow wherever they go, and the accident season becomes an ever-growing obsession and fear.
But why are they so cursed? And how can they break free?

REVIEW:

The Accident Season was a good book, it just wasn’t exactly the book for me. Not to say I disliked it though. I actually really enjoyed it and found it totally intriguing. I didn’t really click with the characters because they were a tad eccentric, and they smoked and drank. (Eccentric characters and underage smoking and drinking are just not my thing.) But aside from that I really enjoyed the rest of the novel.

The Accident Season is so unique. Each year, during the month of October, Cara’s family gets hurt, over and over again with no explanation. There are broken bones, cracked heads, inexplicable bruises, and tons of falls. I found myself unable to relate The Accident Season to any other book I’ve ever read or heard of.

The Accident Season gave me chills because it’s honestly just so enchanting to read. Doyle’s writing will take you to another world. I felt like reality had stopped for a while and I was in some sort of trance while reading because her writing made it so easy to suspend my disbelief. The writing in The Accident Season is truly mesmerizing.

I was also extremely glad that all the questions were addressed and explained thoroughly in a way that the reader could understand. I wasn’t left confused at all. The author did an amazing job with tying everything up in such a perfect way that will leave you shocked yet enthralled.

Ooooh also I feel the need to mention this book isn’t set in America! It’s set it Ireland! I thought that was pretty cool too. Finally, I really liked the parings in this book, even if the characters weren’t my favorites. One of the parings is actually considered taboo, but I won’t say much on that because I don’t want to spoil.

I definitely recommend you read this book sometime near Halloween, it will leave you chilled to the bone in the best way possible.

“There is a crack opening up in the middle of the kitchen table. The typewriter and the secrets box are too heavy for it. They’re pulling the table down. They’re opening up a hole in the floor. The whole room rips apart. There it is, large as life. Our lives are being blown wide open.”
