BLURB FROM GOODREADS:

Record a voice and it lasts forever…

In 1993, Ryan records a diary on an old tape. He talks about his mother’s death, about his dreams, about his love for a new girl at school who doesn’t even know he exists.

In 2013, Ameliah moves in with her grandmother after her parents die. There, she finds a tape in the spare room. A tape with a boy’s voice on it – a voice she can’t quite hear, but which seems to be speaking to her.

Ryan and Ameliah are connected by more than just a tape.

This is their story.

REVIEW:

Have you ever seen a book that you desperately WANT to like? Yeah, its TAPE for me. I’m big at books that includes music and/or time traveling plot. This one doesn’t have the music aspect, but the time traveling (sort of) aspect is very much present.

8599799

Ameliah and Ryan is connected more than a tape. Ameliah is from 2013 and Ryan is from 1993. But they found a way to talk to each other.. and how is that? I DO NOT KNOW BECAUSE IT WASN’T EXPLAINED VERY WELL. IT MUST BE MAGIC. Anyway, the bigger question here is.. What’s the connection between Ameliah and Ryan??

I was close to the middle part when I already figured it out! I know, I’m smart like that! or…. maybe the book is just too dull to keep me guessing. Or….. the book is too predictable. I was so tempted to DnF this but I promised myself to play nice to books now. I don’t wanna DNF BOOKS ANYMORE AND I want to be a changed Book Reviewer. HA. So as a result, I WAS BORED to tears.

First of all, it was really slow to start. Like, I know we have to be introduced to the characters, but seriously..we have to get passed that! The characters, even though they did nothing but blab out their life to me, I still feel unattached to them. I ACTUALLY FORGOT THEIR NAMES while I was reading it.

11341625

The romance was not believable at all. OF COURSE, its insta-love. They met, had an eye contact and suddenly they’re soulmates???????

BS.

7433695

And as I mentioned above, the plot itself was not explained thoroughly. There’s a lot of unanswered stuff that really bothered me. And yeah, I WAS NOT SATISFIED.

Hmmm, TAPE has a 3 good things though:

1. The cover has Tape in it. SEE?
2. The cover is yellow.
3. The cover is yellow… and HAS A TAPE IN IT.

THAT IS ALL.

Fate has brought them together. But will it also keep them apart?

Having moved to a strange town, sixteen-year-old Joey Gray is feeling a little lost, until she meets a cute, mysterious boy near her new home.

But Tristan Halloway is not what he seems. And there’s a very good reason why he’s always to be found roaming between the gravestones in the local cemetery…

This book really has potential. And it was wasted. Because of this: !!!!! And this: !!!!! and a lot more of this: !!!!!!!!

The Lost Boys a.k.a The abundance of !!!! The repetition of very bugged me too. I guess very is the author’s favorite word.

This is an example of Insta-Love gone wrong (okay what’s new with that) well, this went horribly wrong.

Horrible-terrible-awful-gif

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW THE GUY (even if he’s cute or not) YOU DO NOT FOLLOW LIKE A PUPPY, BECAUSE IDK, YOU MIGHT GET KILLED OR SOMETHING. But of course our protagonist, Joe, is a smart and genius girl who doesn’t listen.

“My resolve to get the hell away from him faltered and vanished in the brightness of his smile”

tumblr_ltc32xFmhx1qilods

I still gave Joe a chance though, I’m not that ruthless. And I admit that the plot is really mystifying. When I’m trying to ignore the abundance of exclamation marks and Joe’s losing brain cells, I focus more on story. I really want to know the guy’s secret and how did he become a ghost. The book also said that Joe was kind of a witch so that aspect should be exciting but it still failed to deliver. I understand that this is a first in a series but I can’t ignore that the teen drama was taking over the whole book.

Character development was Nada! in this book. Which sucks because it was badly needed. The characters were all over the place. It’s like the author don’t have a concrete idea on how her characters should act. I wasn’t impressed on how things ended too so NO, I won’t be reading the second book. I’m doing it for my own good.

BLURB FROM GOODREADS:

This emotional, hilarious, devastating, and ultimately triumphant YA debut, based on actual events, recounts one girl’s rejection of her high school’s hierarchy—and her discovery of her true self in the face of tragedy.

Fall’s buzzed-about, in-house favorite. Outside, Anika Dragomir is all lip gloss and blond hair—the third most popular girl in school. Inside, she’s a freak: a mix of dark thoughts, diabolical plots, and, if local chatter is to be believed, vampire DNA (after all, her father is Romanian). But she keeps it under wraps to maintain her social position. One step out of line and Becky Vilhauer, first most popular girl in school, will make her life hell. So when former loner Logan McDonough shows up one September hotter, smarter, and more mysterious than ever, Anika knows she can’t get involved. It would be insane to throw away her social safety for a nerd. So what if that nerd is now a black-leather-jacket-wearing dreamboat, and his loner status is clearly the result of his troubled home life? Who cares if the right girl could help him with all that, maybe even save him from it? Who needs him when Jared Kline, the bad boy every girl dreams of, is asking her on dates? Who?

Anatomy of a Misfit is Mean Girls meets The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Anika’s hilariously deadpan delivery will appeal to readers for its honesty and depth. The so-sad-it’s-funny high school setting will pull readers in, but when the story’s dark foreboding gradually takes over, the devastating penultimate tragedy hits like a punch to the gut. Readers will ride the highs and lows alongside funny, flawed Anika—from laughter to tears, and everything in between.

REVIEW:

What a waste. My excitement and enthusiasm is just useless. And I got disappointed.. BIG TIME. The blurb said that it was Mean Girls meets The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and in the first few chapters it’s more on the Mean Girls part.. which is kind of annoying to read. The main protagonist did nothing but complain and swear unnecessarily. Seriously, there’s a lot F bomb dropped here and it’s just useless. What are they for?! It just turned me off and made me more annoyed by the book. I was kind of surprised, actually, because this book has a lot of swearing, slut shaming and sexual languages that is SERIOUSLY NOT NEEDED. I don’t understand why the author wants her main character to go on effin spree every paragraph.

And then there’s the message of the novel which I don’t get because the book has a lot to say and there wasn’t a point that was completely explained. It’s like she has this one but OH! she thought of another one, so she just abandoned the last one. The characters wasn’t that great either. I didn’t connect to any of them and they came off as bland to me. AND FREAKISHLY ANNOYING. Anika says things like this.

“Or maybe she can’t add. She is a Christian. I don’t think they believe in math.”

giphy

UGH. I CANNOT EVEN. Slut shaming, Christian shaming (can you believe this) and yeah, gays weren’t exempted. The author touched that too. I’m sorry, but half of Anika’s monologue here is offensive. I was too angry to continue.

Oh and there’s a love triangle! AND I DON’T CARE ABOUT IT. Because the guy#1 can’t stop saying ‘like’. Like, yes omg he’s a guy but like, he cannot stop it, like, it’s his favorite word or something. And he says things like this:

“I’m gonna kiss you now and you’re gonna like it.”

Red_Ugh_Gif

The guy#2… ugggghhh. Snoozefest.

Lastly, YES I DID READ THE AUTHOR’S NOTE and I felt sad about that. But my annoyance just overpowered my sadness so I got it over my sadness immediately.

REVIEW:

Edge Of Falling is second in a series. Though reading the first book isn’t that necessary, I would advice to read it so you can enjoy this novel more. And because that’s where the main characters here first showed up. You see, on Falling By Design (Falling #1), they were just secondary characters (and they were great!) And now they have their own novel..

…and it sucked. UGH. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE SWOONY AND I SHOULD BE FLAILING AND SIGHING ans stuff but NO. I am frustrated. Frustrated by this characters, by the lack of plot, by everything.

I loved Falling By Design to bits and that is why my frustration here is just over the top. I just didn’t expected it to be like this you know. My big problem here are the characters. Like, both of them. At first it was cute. Grayson was this guy who has a HUGE crush on Dakota and Dakota don’t know it yet, but she also have feelings for Grayson. See that plot? It’s cute. It’s like we all have a secret and we are waiting for them to catch up. I’m not stupid. I know they are gonna end up eventually, but what I want here is how they ended up together.

And I did not like that HOW. Well, Grayson doesn’t have balls! He keeps saying that ‘YES I WILL FINALLY TELL HER WHAT I FEEL’ and when the moment is there, he flakes off! Dakota on the other hand will be like ‘YES I FEEL SOMETHING TOWARDS GRAYSON AND I WANNA KNOW WHAT IT IS’ then BAM, she acts bitchy when they’re together. This is pretty much what happened for like 60% of the book.

34r61bo

And there’s this Kyle character that is supposed to be a big part of the story but just went to waste because he wasn’t completely fleshed out. He didn’t even help in the situation. Sometimes he will re-appear in a chapter and I’d be “OH I COMPLETELY FORGOT THAT THIS CHARACTER EXIST!” He’s more like a prop. A useless prop.

Overall, Edge Of Falling just didn’t appeal to me like Falling By Design did. Which sucked. It just sucks when that happens! But I’ll still support this author because despite of the frustrations I felt here, I still liked her writing and the easyness (is easyness a word?!) of it.

 BLURB FROM GOODREADS:

Wren Caswell is average. Ranked in the middle of her class at Sacred Heart, she’s not popular, but not a social misfit. Wren is the quiet, “good” girl who’s always done what she’s supposed to—only now in her junior year, this passive strategy is backfiring. She wants to change, but doesn’t know how.

Grayson Barrett was the king of St. Gabe’s. Star of the lacrosse team, top of his class, on a fast track to a brilliant future—until he was expelled for being a “term paper pimp.” Now Gray is in a downward spiral and needs to change, but doesn’t know how.

One fateful night their paths cross when Wren, working at her family’s Arthurian-themed catering hall, performs the Heimlich on Gray as he chokes on a cocktail weenie, saving his life literally and figuratively. What follows is the complicated, awkward, hilarious, and tender tale of two teens shedding their pasts, figuring out who they are—and falling in love.

REVIEW:

WHAT A LIAR. This just confirms that promises are meant to be broken.

702518

This will be short and I’ll let the characters why I had some problems.

The girl, Wren has some issues. I mean, like the blurb said: she’s average.

“Maddie (her friend) had her hair down, pencil in hand. It looked like she was taking notes too, but I could tell she was sketching. I hoped I wasn’t her subject this time, because the look on my face was anything but pretty”

7cde3c3ca62536a91dceda538fc96c93fc31551e7551aba2092555175f1939aa

And the guy is a delinquent who tosses hot dogs in the air for a show because HE IS MATURE LIKE THAT. ONCE they saw each other they completely fell inlove.

“His dark brown eyes held mine for a second. Open. Honest. Longing. As if the hot-dog-tossing tool was just some mask he’d put on for the party.”

She found that open-honest-longing thing in a second and they don’t even know each other.

HOW+DO+YOU+KNOW+ALL+THIS+_474be77d47b5df0784d7a30bf84315f8

The guy is no different.

So this is just what happened. Instalove that doesn’t seem legit. Main characters that are trying to be deep and meaningful but failed. And a plot that is just MEH. What a waste.

I need good books. Any recs? I noticed that I’m getting tired of contemporary romance which I cannot accept because it’s my favorite genre. Will you save me? What’s your favorite or the best YA Contemporary Romance or Realistic Fiction that you read this year (so far)?

BLURB FROM GOODREADS:

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

REVIEW:

Ohhhh. How do I put my thoughts into words? Just to let you know, this review is from a hardcore fan of Hoover. Her books may not have 5stars from me, but she’s one of my auto-buy authors. I mean, obviously. There’s a lot of new releases yesterday and Ugly Love is the first one I dived into.

I’m going to make this review as clear as possible. God knows how muddled my mind is right now. So I’ll just break into Plot, Characters, her writing, etc etc

Writing. POV’s. As ever, Hoovers writing is beautiful. She has this lyrical way of writing that compels you to NOT stop reading. And even though Colleen is a writing goddess for me, I PERSONALLY think that she made a mistake here. Like, a huge mess mistake. MINI SPOILER AHEAD. ***SKIP THIS PART IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILES ABOUT THE POV’S*** Ugly Love is on Tate and Miles’ POV.  Tate on present day. And Miles’ six years ago. I  AM SO MAD ABOUT THIS. You see, I can’t properly have my Tate and Miles feels because EVERY TIME I read Miles’ POV she’s with this girl: Rachel.  His first love! And you guys, THEY ARE SO FREAKIN SWEET. Like, you might think that this book is about them, not Tate and Miles’. And this is why I’m so so mad, because while Rachel and Miles are making sweet dovey love to each other (in Miles’ POV) , Miles and Tate are f***ing (in Tate’s chapter) GUYS, IT IS SO FRUSTRATING.

as

I mean, I am sorry. But even though those Rachel and Miles events took place six years ago, it’s kind of hard to not feel that as if Miles is cheating, or that he is screwing two girls at the same time. I don’t think you can actually feel me if you haven’t read the book. But guyssss

tumblr_inline_mt2x59QwJH1reausy

I was so tempted to skip Miles’ POV but I CANNOT. Because I like torturing myself. Also, because I want to know him, what made him that way, what made him such a stupid tamer version of CHRISTIAN GREY. YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT. Which brings me to my point two.

CHARACTERS. Likeable but Stupid MC and Intense but Stupid Love interest.

Tate wasn’t annoying. At first. Like any Hoover heroine, I found myself liking Tate so hard. She’s just sooo… easy-going and a little funny also screwed up and did I already mention, stupid?

“I’m so screwed up. Everything he says should send me running, but instead, it makes me want to wrap my arms around him and give him whatever it is he’s willing to take from me.”

Frustration.+Ever+been+so+frustrated+you+turn+into+a+statue_ad7bf3_3493965

Oh Tate, what is the matter with you. You’re young (23), you have a perfect career ahead of you (as an RN) and according to that guy who keeps flirting with you even though he already have a wife, you’re hot. So… WHYYYYY. ***MINI SPOILERS AGAIN*** There’s even this scene when they’re having S-E-X (sorry, there might be K-I-D-S) and Miles says another name. And you know what? She just said to ‘continue’

“I let him use me to get rid of his pain”

Seriously girl,

aretha-franklin-is-not-happy-with-one-certain-johnny-rockets

Tate a.k.a taking masochism in a whole different level.

I don’t like her making Miles look like a god or a very perfect swoon worthy guy because HE IS NOT.

Miles. Look, I get it. He’s broken I mean, the guy haven’t even had  S-E-X for six years! Even kiss, na-da! That’s how broken he is. His past really was a little traumatic, but Miles was such a douchebag and cruel to Tate through out the book that when it finally revealed his hurtful past, I just… MEH.

tumblr_mesl222Jcx1ql5yr7o1_400

There’s no even tears. The title said Ugly Love, well you got that right! There is nothing beautiful about this book. Maybe the parts in Miles’ POV, but he’s not even spending those moments with Tate. Tate and Miles’ lovey dovey moments were in the last few pages. UGH. Here is the conversation they usually have:

Miles: I CANNOT LOVE U

Tate: It’s ok..

Miles: I just wanna have sex but i cannot luv u tho. u in??

Tate: sure

Miles: *having sex*  Oh, Racheeeeelll OH WAIT UHMM

Tate: just continue

833707

I give up, Tate. I give up.

Miles keeps saying that he is not capable of love or that he doesn’t want to love again or that it is just sex that he really just wants and Tate was oh so hurting, but she just keeps letting him

“Make me leave, he says, his voice pleading and warm against my throat. “You don’t need this…I just don’t know how to stop wanting you. Tell me to go, and I’ll go.” I don’t tell him to go. I shake my head. “I can’t.”

Was+it+really+necessary+to+push+your+name+of+this+_c1f4d3769dca8dc038cc226fef7e1fc2

I am so done.

PLOTLINE. What I love most about CoHo’s book are the depth in her stories. Well, I don’t know about this one. Whether we admit it or not, whe had this plotline before. In books, movies… Have you heard Friends With Benefits? The difference is that the guy in that movie is less douchey and ugh I cannot even think of more insulting word for Miles but I seriously want to insult him.

When I read the blurb, I thought that it’s about two people that will slowly fall in love to each other. I mean it happened before. The guy doesn’t want to commit but he falls in love with the girl anyway. ***MINI SPOILER AGAIN*** It is true, Miles fell in love with Tate eventually. And when I say ‘Eventually’ it means when he realized, Oh no wait, when he’s friend made him realize that Tate is more than just doormat. WHAT IS THAT STORY. I DO NOT KNOW. I’M TOO BUSY LOOKING AT COSMO FOR TIPS TO GIVE TO TATE ON HOW TO NOT BE A DOORMAT AND/OR A BOOTYCALL (there’s a lot btw)

ENDING. This is where my other star came from. Even though I didn’t shed any tear through out the book, I love how things ended. And a little relieved, actually. I want something that can salvage my love for CoHo. Oh and you guys!!!

COHO

PULLED

A MAFI..

YES.

It

is

true.

I do not know why she did this..

But she did..

Oh, she did..

I liked it a little though. It wasn’t that annoying and irritating . I just don’t see the point. Look, I still recommend this. Maybe it was a ‘it’s not you, it’s me case’. I really am curious about your response and reactions if ever you’ve read the book. 🙂

If anyone will be looking for me

REVIEW:

According to the genre,  it’s Mystery, Thriller and what is that? Horror?

YZHYb

That’s funny, really. Because I wasn’t mystified, or thrilled.. and seriously, Horror?! Not by a long shot. It’s so weird guys.. so weird. I’m surprised I finished it. Kudos to Abbott’s sophisticated writing. Too bad the multiple POV’s has to ruin it. Or the story itself.

So here’s the gist. One by one, every girl in Deenie’s town has been having seizures and hallucinations. No one seems to know the cause behind it. What’s causing this contagious illness? Why girls only? But most importantly, WHY ISN’T DEENIE AFFECTED BY THIS CONTAGIOUS ILLNESS? Why isn’t she in the hospital like her friends?

Excited and thrilled yet? Well trust me, you’re not gonna stay that way. As I read through out the story, I admit that I was deeply intrigued. You can see it on my status updates. But geez, the multiple POV’s, unnecessary chapters and the bland and boring MC makes me want to hurt myself. You can notice that the author really gets out of her way just to confuse and make the readers think.  And when I finally got some answers, I LOST IT.

756590_2

I can’t believe I’ve been through 80% dull chapters for that shallow and stupid reason. THAT IS THE REASON?! Just to give you a heads up, it wasn’t really explained the WHY. Not even the HOW. To say that I was pissed is an understatement. Also, when I started reading The Fever I had this feeling.. like, oh my word this is going to be insanely good or wait is this paranormal or gosh! this book might haunt me forever. Maybe you’ll get those feels too so, I’m telling you,  STOP RIGHT THERE. Don’t get your hopes up.

challenge-snorting-miltonious-blog-10

And I don’t want you to be crushed so I’ll do you a favor. It’s not paranormal. It’s not gonna haunt you, unless you hurt yourself out of frustration then you will surely remember it. Anyway I AM A BIG FAN of the writing, I really am. Actually, it was the only thing that kept me going. I was tempted (a lot of times!) to put this book down.. nothing is happening, the author keeps confusing me (and not in a good way), also all I got is it doesn’t look like her’ or i feel different’, blah blah blah.. So the CONCLUSION: I just wasted my time on a bunch of teenagers having problems about their virginities.

tumblr_inline_n4djx0DeOQ1svax4f

Have you read any works of the author? Do you recommend it? Because I just checked out her other books and the ratings are pretty high. But after reading this one, I’m having second thoughts on picking up anything from her. Looking forward to your answers!
