HUNTED is the electrifying sequel to the bestselling debut BRANDED, A Sinners Series, by Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki.
It’s been three months since the revolt against the Commander’s fifty-year-old regime failed.
Under a new ruler, things were supposed to change. Get better.
But can anyone really be trusted?
Lexi and Cole soon find out, as life takes an unexpected turn for the worse.
In this ever-changing world, you must hunt or be hunted.
Lives will be lost.
Dreams will be crushed.
Fears will be realized.
Secrets will be exposed.
When Cole is once again faced with losing Lexi at the hands of a monster, one encounter will change everything.

Hunted was jaw dropping and amazing to say the least. It was fast paced, had the right amount of action, mixed in some sexy times with Cole and Lexie, yet still managed to break my heart. In my opinion, Hunted was a step up from Branded. The writing was better, and it somehow was even more suspenseful then Branded, which I didn’t think was possible.

Cole continues to be an absolutely amazing guy. He is just such a hottie. Hunted really dives into exploring more of the amazing characters of Lexie, Cole, Bruno and Grace. Lexie is so tough and she never gives up what she believes in. Plus, Lexie continues to be such a realistic character and goes through substantial development. Of course, we have Zeus, the amazing dog companion who everyone loves. I’ve yet to talk to anyone who’s read Branded and Hunted who doesn’t like Zeus. (And how could you not like him, he’s an adorable, overly-protective dog for crying out loud!) But back to Cole and Lexie, not only are they dealing with their own struggles they have to deal with so much craziness around them and live in such a terrifying world.

The ENDING though. After breaking your heart, and leaving you swooning, Hunted still manages to end on an extremely high note that will leave you guessing. I cannot wait for Liberated! (I don’t even know how I’m going to survive the wait though…)

On the run across America from a vengeful shape-shifter, Bannerman “Bann” Boru has only one thing on his mind: keeping himself and his young son, Cor, alive.
At any cost.
Until he meets Shay Doyle, healer and member of a secret group of immortal Celtic warriors, the Tuatha De Danaan, living in modern-day Colorado. When Cor is injured, Bannerman is forced to accept her help. He quickly realizes that the golden-haired healer is shield-maiden tough and can hold her own on the field of battle with the big boys. And Shay soon discovers that there is more to Bann than meets the eye.
Now, with the shape-shifter Cernunnos teaming up with the local pack of Fir Bolgs (Bronze Age creatures with a nasty taste for children), Bannerman, Shay, her wolf-dog, Max, and the rest of the Doyle clan must figure out how to battle one insane god.

“Fantasy would go like this—the hero overcomes the monster about beating incredible odds, he woos the girl, they fall in love, and they live happily ever after….. Real life is never that way. Real life is confusing. And messy. And painful. And too many good people get serious crap dumped on them”

I actually haven’t read anything by Darby Karchut and now I’m wondering why.  I fell in love with The Stag Lord immediately and its intense and rich writing totally hooked me. Darby is on my author-to-stalk list. I am sure that I will be reading her other books soon and I will not be surprised if I’ll devour it for 1 day like what I did in The Stag Lord.

Bannerman and his son, Cormac or Cor is on the run. First of all, let’s mention it already that this two are not ordinary human. They are part of the tribe Tuatha De Danaan. Tuatha De Danaan are warriors. They fight with other creatures that human don’t know about like Feys and goblins. But right now, Bannermans main enemy is Cernnunos. And Cernunnos wants something from him that he will never give. Good thing he met Shay and her clan and they fought with him against the shapeshifter Cernunnos.

Okay, that’s all I can give. Darby Kaye’s characters are phenomenal. They’re very real and authentic. Bannerman Boru is the reason some book nerds are not interested in guys anymore. This guy can make you hot all over.. but he can also make your heart melt. His son, Cor, is no different. He is a kid and he’s character is written well. The father and son relationship s to die for. There were scenes that really squeezed my heart.

Shay is one awesome heroine. Now this heroine is what I am dying to read. Funny, badass and kind hearted.

“Shay Doyle,” he declared. “You are in danger.”
“No. I’m in the kitchen.” She raised a hand, forestalling him.

Did I mention she’s funny? The chemistry between Bannerman and Shay is just..

 oh my gawd

But an Urban Fantasy book won’t be complete without its magical and entrancing myths and secrets right? Well, The Stag Lord didn’t fail to deliver. The world surrounding the Tuatha De Danaan and their culture and ways really captivated me. I want to know more. And although I can already feel the torture of waiting, I WILL BE PATIENT. For Cernunno’s next move. For what’s going to happen to Shay and Bann. And for knowing the secret that is surrounding Cor.

The Stag Lord is a success Urban Fantasy novel. It’s fast paced, it’s writing is impressive and the characterization is exquisite! This is 2014 favorite for me. It’s a MUST READ and I recommend it to any UF lovers. You don’t want to miss the heart stopping first book in this series.

When Elizabeth Ashton escapes her damaging city life and finds herself in the remote town of Hemlock Veils, Oregon, she is smitten by its quaint mystery; but the surrounding forest holds an enchantment she didn’t think existed, and worse, a most terrifying monster. The town claims it vicious and evil, but Elizabeth suspects something is amiss. Even with its enormous, hairy frame, gruesome claws, and knifelike teeth, the monster’s eyes speak to her: wolf-like and ringed with gold, yet holding an awareness that can only be human. That’s when Elizabeth knows she is the only one who can see the struggling soul trapped inside, the soul to which she is moved.
Secretly, Elizabeth befriends the beast at night, discovering there’s more to his story and that the rising of the sun transforms him into a human more complex than his beastly self. Elizabeth eventually learns that his curse is unlike any other and that a single murderous act is all that stands between him and his freedom. Though love is not enough to break his curse, it may be the only means by which the unimaginable can be done: sacrifice a beauty for the beast.

Oh wow. I’ve never read a Beauty and the Beast retelling before, which is kind of weird because it’s my favorite Disney movie ever. Bella is me. I just know it. If you’re going to ask me right now for captivating, gripping and magical Adult version of Beauty and the Beast? Hemlock Veils will always be my answer.

The story started out by Elizabeth getting away from her past. She’s hoping to reach the town that her father has always been talking about. But Fate do not agree with her plans. And instead, she found herself being lead by Eustace (a hunter) to a small town called Hemlock Veils. Hemlock Veils is so hidden you see, a very small village. And people are afraid of a creature they called Beast. But Elizabeth isn’t afraid.. she’s fascinated. So she decided to just stay in the town. Too bad Mr. Clayton isn’t too fond of her.

Wait, this is a debut novel?? WHAT!? This is incredible. Jennie Davenport’s words slays. Its magical and it gripped me from the first word I’ve read. Hemlock Veils has that kind of atmosphere that transfers you into its setting whenever you started reading it. The characters stands out. Elizabeth, Henry, all of Hemlock Veils’ townspeople are well written. They’re authentic. These are people you can meet in your daily life.

And of course, being the hopeless romantic that I am, I have to comment on the Romance aspect of the book. I have no words, I LOVE IT!! Its that slow burn kind and its intense and sexy with clothes on, which I must say is the best. What’s between Henry and Elizabeth isn’t just attraction or lust.. its PURE LOVE OKAY. My shipper heart is happy. I got teary eyed at the near end because Jennie can be evil. HINT: That ending!! *sniff sniff*

Hemlock Veils is a very memorable read. The pacing will keep you turning the pages, the writing is brilliant and the storyline is well thought and executed. I love its modern take of the classic Disney film, Beauty and the Beast. There’s nothing more to say but READ IT!! IMMEDIATELY!!

jennie davenport

Though Jennie Davenport was raised throughout the Midwest, she now lives in the little desert mining town of Bagdad, Arizona, where six guys beg for her constant attention: a husband, three young, blond sons, a German shepherd with a name much mightier than his disposition (Zeus), and a black cat named Mouse. When she isn’t trying to run her home with as little casualties as possible, Jennie loves snuggling with her family, laughing with her friends, delving into brilliant entertainment of any vein, and playing outside. Despite the way being a writer is in her blood, and the wheels of her writerly mind are constantly turning, Jennie likes to think that in another life, she would have been a Broadway star. Or an American Idol finalist.

Jennie lives for the fall, and not just because of her adoration for the NFL (Go Broncos!). In her perfect world, she would have the springs, summers, and falls of Colorado, and the winters of Arizona—someplace where the climate and weather would allow her to go on a trail run all year round. But even though she prefers the pines and mountains, she is a devoted fan of all nature, from sandy beaches to woodsy cabins, and all are her greatest inspiration. She believes nature is one of the best healing remedies, with a magic all its own.

Jennie’s passion for writing is the way she survives, and is as vital to her sanity as oxygen, caffeine, food, and music. Even before she began writing it, well-told, original, and character-driven romance was always her weak spot. Add the paranormal or magical realism element and she may never make it back to reality.

Hot girls get the fairy tales. No one cares about the stepsisters’ story. Those girls don’t get a sweet little ending; they get a lifetime of longing

Imogen Keegen has never had a happily ever after–in fact, she doesn’t think they are possible. Ever since her mother’s death seven years ago, Imogen has pulled herself in and out of therapy, struggled with an “emotionally disturbed” special ed. label, and loathed her perma-plus-sized status.

When Imogen’s new stepsister, the evil and gorgeous Ella Cinder, moves in down the hall, Imogen begins losing grip on the pieces she’s been trying to hold together. The only things that gave her solace–the theatre, cheese fries, and her best friend, Grant–aren’t enough to save her from her pain this time.

While Imogen is enjoying her moment in the spotlight after the high school musical, the journal pages containing her darkest thoughts get put on display. Now, Imogen must resign herself to be crushed under the ever-increasing weight of her pain, or finally accept the starring role in her own life story.

And maybe even find herself a happily ever after.

Enhance the experience with the companion soundtrack, Imogen Unlocked, by the author’s band, Wedding Day Rain.

“I am whole. I am more than just the pieces that I see. I am stronger than I seem”

Wow. That gif right there is right, my feelings right now is indescribable. Kelsey Macke just slayed me with her words. I can literally feel my heart squeezing while reading Imogen’s thoughts. I don’t know how to go about reviewing this book. Frankly, this is a book that will linger in my mind for the rest of my life. It made an impact on me.

Imogen is overweight and depressed. She’s Ella Cinder’s step sister. And she hides in the audio room because she thinks that that’s where she belongs. Imogen is such a real character that it scares me. She’s engraved in my heart now and I’d be lying if I say that it’s easy letting her go because it’s not. I cried with her, laughed with her, she shared her feeling about everyone that surrounds her and she even let me know her greatest fears. And I am grateful for that. There are characters that you read, but there are characters that you read.. and stays with you.

Imogen is also Grant’s best friend, the sound goddess and a precious friend to have. Grant.. Gosh, how do I even describe Grant? I want to say he’s perfect. But he’s not. He is absolutely flawed and beautifully made. I have a feeling that I might love him more than Imogen.

This book is stunning. It will break your heart. It made my stomach hurt as I recalled my past experiences, and made me cry at how cruel people can be to others. But this book needs to be read. Bullying and depression needs to be brought into the light.

This is not an easy book to read, but well written, capturing the truth and hardness of high school bullying and where it leads to, the damage it can do. With a cast of characters that you will love to hate, Kelsey Macke has portrayed the bullies in this book exceptionally well.

I enjoyed this book despite it’s difficult message and content, a YA book that adults can read, an intelligent book talking about important matters using fiction as the messenger. What happens to Imogen? Do the bullies get the best of her in the end? Will she learn to love herself so she can finally open her heart for other people who wants to love her?

Damsel Distressed is a powerful debut. It’s provocative, beautiful and creative. Kelsey Macke is an author to watch out for. I cannot wait to see what’s more in store for her readers. I really hope everyone will read this book.

Kelsey Macke has been creative for as long as she can remember. From an early age she was on stage singing, penning poetry, and writing notebooks full of songs. When the idea for her debut novel, DAMSEL DISTRESSED, popped into her head, she was undeterred by the fact that she had no idea how to actually write a novel. Her bff, the internet, was her guide, and after much trial, error, and candy, she finished it, and set out to get it published… a process far more difficult than, the internet (now her mortal enemy), had lead her to believe.

Her whirlwind adventure was made even more unbelievable when she signed with fabulous agent, Jessica Sinsheimer of the Sarah Jane Freymann Literary Agency and, shortly after, Danielle Ellison of Spencer Hill Contemporary bought her debut.

This innovative, mixed-media art project has given Kelsey an incredibly unique opportunity to join two of her passions: writing and making music with her husband as half of the folky, indie-pop band Wedding Day Rain.

DAMSEL DISTRESSED, and the companion album of original songs, Imogen Unlocked, are scheduled for release in October 2014.
