As the Demons grow bolder and the walls between the planes of existence weaken, Ember is forced to develop her powers as quickly as possible, and she seeks out a powerful earth Watcher to continue her supernatural lessons. Her glimpse of the future demands she fight the dark forces spreading across the earth.

But her new mentor has his own agenda, making her question everyone and everything she ever trusted.

When Ember is thrust into the world of the Watchers, she learns of their plans—ones that defy the scripture and make them enemies of the Celestial Host. Ridding the world of evil gets complicated when it becomes impossible to take sides.

As Ember struggles with morality, she soon discovers that there’s something more frightening than anything she’s faced before.

REVIEW:

Paula

I mentioned in my review of Embers that it was one of the best Angel/Demons book that I have ever read and I still stand by that statement. Embers left me wanting for more that’s why my hands was itching to hold and read the sequel. Like with every series that I love, I was afraid that Gaia will suffer from Second Book Syndrome. But Gaia did not disappoint, in fact, it even surpassed my expectations.

If you’re like me and you admired Ember so much in the first book, you’ll love her even more here. She is straight up badass and her character growth is just superbly shown. You will really see her maturity. She was a kid who learned about Angels and Demons and Watchers in EMBERS and she have no idea what to do with all of those information, but here in GAIA, she’s a woman with a mission. A mission that she can’t afford to fail.

Secondary characters really shined in here too like Sawyer, Ivan and Piper. Sawyer was phenomenal! He’s not here to please you and if you think Ember is badass…. then Sawyer is the master of all badasses. This guy knows how to make a girl’s heart melt, but he also knows how to make them scream from terror. We already learned that Sawyer is a demon from the first book but I feel like there’s still A LOT to know about him. Even Piper and Ivan showed what they’re capable of. I love how Hopkins made them more than props. They actually have a part in the whole story and how they helped our main character was just incredible!

Gaia is an explosion! Just when I thought Hopkins couldn’t do anything that will caught me off guard, she surprised me with a sequel like this! Truly, Hopkins is one of the best authors in this generation and I’m just incredibly happy that I get to experience her brilliance! Its not too late to catch up, be sure to grab a copy of Embers immediately!

Karen Ann Hopkins resides in northern Kentucky with her family on a farm that boasts a menagerie of horses, goats, peacocks, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats. Karen’s main job is home schooling the kids, but she finds time to give riding lessons, coach a youth equestrian drill team, and of course, write. She was inspired to create her first book, Temptation, by the Amish community she lived in. The experiential knowledge she gained through her interactions with her neighbors drove her to create the story of the star-crossed lovers, Rose and Noah.

Karen grew up about a mile from Lake Ontario in Upstate New York. She was bitten by the horse bug at the age of five, and after diligently taking riding lessons for several years, was rewarded with her first horse when she turned eleven. The feisty horse’s name was Lady, a Quarter Horse-Thoroughbred cross, who became Karen’s steadfast companion. Through the years, the constant force in her life was horses. Eventually, she found her place as a riding instructor herself. Before accepting her fate in the barnyard, she worked a short stint as a paralegal, traveled abroad, and guided tourists on horseback riding tours in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

Karen is currently working on her Amish mystery series, Serenity’s Plain Secrets, along with the YA paranormal/fantasy series, The Wings of War.  Karen is also excited to announce the Temptation series has been optioned for TV by Pilgrim Studios and is available on Audible. More books in the Temptation series are in the works.

Growing up Amish is difficult…but leaving it behind is even harder.
Noah was Amish…Rose wasn’t. Being together should have been impossible. But somehow they found a way to make it work. They are finally a family, but their happily-ever-after is still a long off. Will Rose and her friends be able to force real change?

The powerful family saga continues with Rachel’s Deception, as events spiral out of control in the sleepy farming community of Meadowview. And Rachel Miller has her own secrets to hide. Noah’s younger sister has been living a double life. That is, until Justin Cameron, Rose’s little brother, catches her in the act. GUEST POST:

A Day in an Amish Community..

Hard work and responsibility are a large part of every Amish teen’s life.  Whether girl or boy, they’re expected to contribute to the household’s income and livelihood.  After graduating in the eighth grade, Amish teens are finished with schooling and thrust into the workforce, either leaving the home for a forty hour work week or putting that much time into in a family business.    Jobs include carpentry, metal work, farming, and welding for the boys and butchery, bakery, woodworking, retail, teaching, child care, and housecleaning for the girls.  Usually, 90% of a teen’s income is given to the family as an intricate part of the family’s financial survival.  Part of the ten percent that the teen retains is saved towards the teen’s future married life, while the rest is for their own enjoyment.

Even though Amish teens work hard, they also play hard.  Oftentimes, they will take short trips with their church groups, visit relatives and friends, and participate in activities such as hunting, horseback riding, and skiing.  A usual day for an Amish teen begins at five o’clock in the morning, followed by prayer, breakfast and morning chores.  After working an eight hour work day, the youth will arrive home to afternoon chores before dinner with the family.  The evenings are playtime for the young people.  They can be found at the church’s youth group gatherings, such as singings and ball games, or they may be seen riding their horses or bikes on the roadways.

Amish teens face many of the same conflicts of growing up that ordinary teens do.  Courting, life choices and rebelliousness affect them, sometimes in monumental ways.  All in all, the Amish teens I’ve observed and known are happy with their existence and hopeful for their futures.  A few have ultimately left their culture, being helped by other people who’ve walked away from the Amish before.  These youth were shunned by their Amish families, but they handled their circumstance well, furthering their education, getting jobs of their choices, driving their own cars and becoming part of the English world.

I wrote the Temptation series and my Amish mystery series, Serenity’s Plain Secrets, from my own personal observations and experiences with the young people in the Amish community I lived in.  Even for all the strangeness of an Amish teenager’s lifestyle, they are loved by their family and community, and most of them are happy.  And in the end, that’s all that really matters.

Thank you so much for your interest in Rachel’s Deception, the Temptation series, and my other books: Embers (YA paranormal), Lamb to the Slaughter and Whispers from the Dead (adult Amish mysteries)!  I love to connect with readers and I’d be happy to answer questions about the Amish way of life.  Please contact me at my website: www.karenannhopkins.com or you can message me on FB, Twitter, and Instagram.

Happy Reading,

Karen Ann Hopkins

There are descendants of angels walking among us. Ember is one of them. And she may be the only hope mankind has as the rapture approaches and evils rises.
Embers is an epic paranormal adventure about a seventeen year old girl who discovers that she’s immune to fire and any other injury when she’s in a horrific car crash that kills her parents. Following a violent episode with her aunt’s boyfriend, Ember flees Ohio to live with an old relative in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Ember’s exuberance at escaping a bad home life soon turns to trepidation when she finds out that she’s a Watcher, a descendant of angels. While Ember learns about her heritage, and the powers that go along with it, she strikes up friendships with two teenagers who live in a frightening walled compound in the forest. Inexplicitly drawn to one of the young men in particular, an impossible romance develops. But it is cut short when Ember discovers that her new friends are fighting on the opposite side of a war, one that’s been raging between two factions of Watchers for thousands of years. When the compound’s inhabitants threaten the townspeople, Ember takes action, sealing her fate in the ancient battle of good versus evil, and the grayness in between. Ember is up to the challenge, until she realizes that she isn’t only fighting for the lives of the locals and the souls of her new friends. She also might be one of the few champions who will make a stand for all of mankind as the rapture approaches and the end of days begin.
Embers is a dark and gritty YA novel that’s the first book in the series, The Wings of War.

REVIEW:

I’m now convinced. Karen ann Hopkins can write anything.. and I will like it. I really enjoyed her novel, Lamb to the Slaughter and because I found out that this is her first YA Paranormal, I didn’t know what to expect.

Ember’s parents died in a car crash srash that should’ve killed her too but with unknown reasons fire cannot seem to harm her in any way. Until she was shipped off to her mothers  friend, Ila, that she found all the answers that she’s been dying to know… Ember is a descendant of a kind of angel. She’s a Watcher. And with the help of Aunt Ila, she’s training and practicing to be more skillfull with her abilities.

But being a Watcher is not Ember’s main problem. The world is going to an end… and that man in her dreams (literally) might have something to do with it.

Ohh, people, I. LOVE. IT.

Daniel-Radcliffe-Wow

This is a sexy and action packed paranormal that everybody is looking for, with supernatural characters that are completely unique and distinct. This book reminded me of The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost (which I loved) It has the right amount of wit, romance, action and mystery. Though the start was a bit slow.. the plot was really gripping. I was intrigued by all the monsters and supernatural creatures that Ila was telling Ember and I found myself asking for more of Watcher’s history. It didn’t lack, really. I was satisfied with the whole explanation and it still left me wanting for more and making me excited for the sequel. Just thinking about what’s in store for Ember and Sawyer makes me giddy.

Some people might be put off with the Instalove. I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s there. And it’s scorching hot. Like, it’s blazing flames! The attraction between Ember and Sawyer is unbelievable.

a382a72b485a95bd5cdeca5aa7e7aa14981970fc71c39f3cd4185d64b4708a4a

Even us, the readers, cannot deny the chemistry between this two. From the moment they locked theor aeyes at each other, romance is already brewing. But I loved that them getting together took time. I know the attraction was kind of fast.. okay, scratch kind of, because IT IS fast, but none of the two made bad decisions and decided to just eat each others face (though the WANT is there) the circumstances is still on their mind. And I like that a lot.

Ember is a vey likeable character too, which I did not expect. I loved how she acted all snarky and fought the attraction that is pulling her towards Sawyer. And Sawyer.. WOWZA. Sawyer screams MAN, there is nothing boy about him. Totally alpha and very swoon worthy.

Hopkins’ writing is very easy to get into. Besides the bit of slow pacingI mentioned above, I did not struggle at all and everything just went smoothly. I was transfixed and her writing absolutely held me through out the book. I cannot wait for the sequel! The end was not a total cliffy but it surely left me hanging and begging for more! I absolutely recommend this to everyone!
