When Elizabeth Ashton escapes her damaging city life and finds herself in the remote town of Hemlock Veils, Oregon, she is smitten by its quaint mystery; but the surrounding forest holds an enchantment she didn’t think existed, and worse, a most terrifying monster. The town claims it vicious and evil, but Elizabeth suspects something is amiss. Even with its enormous, hairy frame, gruesome claws, and knifelike teeth, the monster’s eyes speak to her: wolf-like and ringed with gold, yet holding an awareness that can only be human. That’s when Elizabeth knows she is the only one who can see the struggling soul trapped inside, the soul to which she is moved.
Secretly, Elizabeth befriends the beast at night, discovering there’s more to his story and that the rising of the sun transforms him into a human more complex than his beastly self. Elizabeth eventually learns that his curse is unlike any other and that a single murderous act is all that stands between him and his freedom. Though love is not enough to break his curse, it may be the only means by which the unimaginable can be done: sacrifice a beauty for the beast.

REVIEW:

art-beauty-and-the-beast-disney-movie-Favim.com-289947

Oh wow. I’ve never read a Beauty and the Beast retelling before, which is kind of weird because it’s my favorite Disney movie ever. Bella is me. I just know it. If you’re going to ask me right now for captivating, gripping and magical Adult version of Beauty and the Beast? Hemlock Veils will always be my answer.

The story started out by Elizabeth getting away from her past. She’s hoping to reach the town that her father has always been talking about. But Fate do not agree with her plans. And instead, she found herself being lead by Eustace (a hunter) to a small town called Hemlock Veils. Hemlock Veils is so hidden you see, a very small village. And people are afraid of a creature they called Beast. But Elizabeth isn’t afraid.. she’s fascinated. So she decided to just stay in the town. Too bad Mr. Clayton isn’t too fond of her.

Wait, this is a debut novel?? WHAT!? This is incredible. Jennie Davenport’s words slays. Its magical and it gripped me from the first word I’ve read. Hemlock Veils has that kind of atmosphere that transfers you into its setting whenever you started reading it. The characters stands out. Elizabeth, Henry, all of Hemlock Veils’ townspeople are well written. They’re authentic. These are people you can meet in your daily life.

And of course, being the hopeless romantic that I am, I have to comment on the Romance aspect of the book. I have no words, I LOVE IT!! Its that slow burn kind and its intense and sexy with clothes on, which I must say is the best. What’s between Henry and Elizabeth isn’t just attraction or lust.. its PURE LOVE OKAY. My shipper heart is happy. I got teary eyed at the near end because Jennie can be evil. HINT: That ending!! *sniff sniff*

Hemlock Veils is a very memorable read. The pacing will keep you turning the pages, the writing is brilliant and the storyline is well thought and executed. I love its modern take of the classic Disney film, Beauty and the Beast. There’s nothing more to say but READ IT!! IMMEDIATELY!!

Though Jennie Davenport was raised throughout the Midwest, she now lives in the little desert mining town of Bagdad, Arizona, where six guys beg for her constant attention: a husband, three young, blond sons, a German shepherd with a name much mightier than his disposition (Zeus), and a black cat named Mouse. When she isn’t trying to run her home with as little casualties as possible, Jennie loves snuggling with her family, laughing with her friends, delving into brilliant entertainment of any vein, and playing outside. Despite the way being a writer is in her blood, and the wheels of her writerly mind are constantly turning, Jennie likes to think that in another life, she would have been a Broadway star. Or an American Idol finalist.

Jennie lives for the fall, and not just because of her adoration for the NFL (Go Broncos!). In her perfect world, she would have the springs, summers, and falls of Colorado, and the winters of Arizona—someplace where the climate and weather would allow her to go on a trail run all year round. But even though she prefers the pines and mountains, she is a devoted fan of all nature, from sandy beaches to woodsy cabins, and all are her greatest inspiration. She believes nature is one of the best healing remedies, with a magic all its own.

Jennie’s passion for writing is the way she survives, and is as vital to her sanity as oxygen, caffeine, food, and music. Even before she began writing it, well-told, original, and character-driven romance was always her weak spot. Add the paranormal or magical realism element and she may never make it back to reality.

Meet Callie, a chubby-sexy nineteen-year-old girl who fears high heels, commitments, and has a love/hate relationship with her running shoes. Nine months of college down the drain and all she has to show for it is her freshman thirty.

But alas, life has other crap plans for her–one that includes a strict regiment of “do this and do that” from her she-devil sister, all while trying to avoid the unavoidable. The unavoidable being Ky: the ex-best friend-turned-sex god who lives across the street.

Meet Ky; a nineteen-year-old wanna be country music singer and a boy-turned-man who still wears a proverbial skateboard around his neck from wasted high school days. When Callie returns home, he realizes that she’s exactly the muse he’s been missing all this time.

Now, if only she can stop running long enough to find out where their love could lead. FINDING HER WAY BACK is a new adult novel about finding love while learning how to love yourself. For all the chubby-sexy girls who tend to feel invisible, this one’s for you!

REVIEW:

I picked up Findig Her Way Back intending to read just a chapter or two in between other tasks, and ended up reading late into the night. I had to. Callie is such a well developed character and the secondary characters surrounding her were fabulous as well. The pacing was spot on.

Callie is overweight, having problems with school and has troubles with her family. Especially her sister. Well, Callie is a refreshing character. It’s nice to finally read a female character with a chubby physique AND LOVING HERSELF.

“No. I wouldn’t let her bring me down. Nobody could. I was a damn force- someone you definitely didn’t want to mess with.”

giphy

In New Adult genre, that’s kind of rare. We all read that oh why do i hate myself heroines so that’s why Callie is such an admirable character. She’s not only kick-ass but also caring. Oh man, you have no idea how I want to slap and choke her sister to death. I wouldn’t say that Callie didn’t have thoughts like that, she did some stupid stuff that she regretted too. And that’s why she’s well developed. She’s flawed and character development was very much present.

Anna really got through me, and not in a good way. I’ve never wanted to puncha and slap a character so bad. And yeah, that is good writing and evidence of an excellent character but I just can’t take her.

Ky is Callie’s best friend from before who also has his own demons to face.  If this isn’t an alpha male, I don’t know what is. Ky’s a typical NA guy but he’s so much more. The layers that is coating his characters keeps surprising me until the book ended. He’s a mix of douchebag and a gentleman.  And I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t swoon because.. yeah, I DID.

“I will endure every aspect you let me, Callie”

be-still-my-heart-gaston-o

Heather Van Fleet’s writing is engaging and gripping. She made a book that is rich in unique details with enjoyable dialogue, three dimensional characters, and has an excellent mixture of light and sweet aspects, as well as dark and scary moments. I enjoyed watching the characters grow, letting their fears end and looking for people to help them endure in their troubles. This book really made it’s way inside my heart.

BLURB FROM GOODREADS:

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

REVIEW:

Ohhhh. How do I put my thoughts into words? Just to let you know, this review is from a hardcore fan of Hoover. Her books may not have 5stars from me, but she’s one of my auto-buy authors. I mean, obviously. There’s a lot of new releases yesterday and Ugly Love is the first one I dived into.

I’m going to make this review as clear as possible. God knows how muddled my mind is right now. So I’ll just break into Plot, Characters, her writing, etc etc

Writing. POV’s. As ever, Hoovers writing is beautiful. She has this lyrical way of writing that compels you to NOT stop reading. And even though Colleen is a writing goddess for me, I PERSONALLY think that she made a mistake here. Like, a huge mess mistake. MINI SPOILER AHEAD. ***SKIP THIS PART IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILES ABOUT THE POV’S*** Ugly Love is on Tate and Miles’ POV.  Tate on present day. And Miles’ six years ago. I  AM SO MAD ABOUT THIS. You see, I can’t properly have my Tate and Miles feels because EVERY TIME I read Miles’ POV she’s with this girl: Rachel.  His first love! And you guys, THEY ARE SO FREAKIN SWEET. Like, you might think that this book is about them, not Tate and Miles’. And this is why I’m so so mad, because while Rachel and Miles are making sweet dovey love to each other (in Miles’ POV) , Miles and Tate are f***ing (in Tate’s chapter) GUYS, IT IS SO FRUSTRATING.

as

I mean, I am sorry. But even though those Rachel and Miles events took place six years ago, it’s kind of hard to not feel that as if Miles is cheating, or that he is screwing two girls at the same time. I don’t think you can actually feel me if you haven’t read the book. But guyssss

tumblr_inline_mt2x59QwJH1reausy

I was so tempted to skip Miles’ POV but I CANNOT. Because I like torturing myself. Also, because I want to know him, what made him that way, what made him such a stupid tamer version of CHRISTIAN GREY. YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT. Which brings me to my point two.

CHARACTERS. Likeable but Stupid MC and Intense but Stupid Love interest.

Tate wasn’t annoying. At first. Like any Hoover heroine, I found myself liking Tate so hard. She’s just sooo… easy-going and a little funny also screwed up and did I already mention, stupid?

“I’m so screwed up. Everything he says should send me running, but instead, it makes me want to wrap my arms around him and give him whatever it is he’s willing to take from me.”

Frustration.+Ever+been+so+frustrated+you+turn+into+a+statue_ad7bf3_3493965

Oh Tate, what is the matter with you. You’re young (23), you have a perfect career ahead of you (as an RN) and according to that guy who keeps flirting with you even though he already have a wife, you’re hot. So… WHYYYYY. ***MINI SPOILERS AGAIN*** There’s even this scene when they’re having S-E-X (sorry, there might be K-I-D-S) and Miles says another name. And you know what? She just said to ‘continue’

“I let him use me to get rid of his pain”

Seriously girl,

aretha-franklin-is-not-happy-with-one-certain-johnny-rockets

Tate a.k.a taking masochism in a whole different level.

I don’t like her making Miles look like a god or a very perfect swoon worthy guy because HE IS NOT.

Miles. Look, I get it. He’s broken I mean, the guy haven’t even had  S-E-X for six years! Even kiss, na-da! That’s how broken he is. His past really was a little traumatic, but Miles was such a douchebag and cruel to Tate through out the book that when it finally revealed his hurtful past, I just… MEH.

tumblr_mesl222Jcx1ql5yr7o1_400

There’s no even tears. The title said Ugly Love, well you got that right! There is nothing beautiful about this book. Maybe the parts in Miles’ POV, but he’s not even spending those moments with Tate. Tate and Miles’ lovey dovey moments were in the last few pages. UGH. Here is the conversation they usually have:

Miles: I CANNOT LOVE U

Tate: It’s ok..

Miles: I just wanna have sex but i cannot luv u tho. u in??

Tate: sure

Miles: *having sex*  Oh, Racheeeeelll OH WAIT UHMM

Tate: just continue

833707

I give up, Tate. I give up.

Miles keeps saying that he is not capable of love or that he doesn’t want to love again or that it is just sex that he really just wants and Tate was oh so hurting, but she just keeps letting him

“Make me leave, he says, his voice pleading and warm against my throat. “You don’t need this…I just don’t know how to stop wanting you. Tell me to go, and I’ll go.” I don’t tell him to go. I shake my head. “I can’t.”

Was+it+really+necessary+to+push+your+name+of+this+_c1f4d3769dca8dc038cc226fef7e1fc2

I am so done.

PLOTLINE. What I love most about CoHo’s book are the depth in her stories. Well, I don’t know about this one. Whether we admit it or not, whe had this plotline before. In books, movies… Have you heard Friends With Benefits? The difference is that the guy in that movie is less douchey and ugh I cannot even think of more insulting word for Miles but I seriously want to insult him.

When I read the blurb, I thought that it’s about two people that will slowly fall in love to each other. I mean it happened before. The guy doesn’t want to commit but he falls in love with the girl anyway. ***MINI SPOILER AGAIN*** It is true, Miles fell in love with Tate eventually. And when I say ‘Eventually’ it means when he realized, Oh no wait, when he’s friend made him realize that Tate is more than just doormat. WHAT IS THAT STORY. I DO NOT KNOW. I’M TOO BUSY LOOKING AT COSMO FOR TIPS TO GIVE TO TATE ON HOW TO NOT BE A DOORMAT AND/OR A BOOTYCALL (there’s a lot btw)

ENDING. This is where my other star came from. Even though I didn’t shed any tear through out the book, I love how things ended. And a little relieved, actually. I want something that can salvage my love for CoHo. Oh and you guys!!!

COHO

PULLED

A MAFI..

YES.

It

is

true.

I do not know why she did this..

But she did..

Oh, she did..

I liked it a little though. It wasn’t that annoying and irritating . I just don’t see the point. Look, I still recommend this. Maybe it was a ‘it’s not you, it’s me case’. I really am curious about your response and reactions if ever you’ve read the book. 🙂

If anyone will be looking for me

Okay I admit it… I didn’t do it.

Yet..

This is normal, right? I mean, just because everyone I know has talked like they’ve already done it doesn’t mean that they’re telling the truth… right?

It’s not like I’m asking for that much. I don’t need the perfect guy. I don’t need candlelight or roses.Honestly, I don’t even need a real bed.

The guys I know complain that girls are always looking for Mr. Right- do I have to wear a sign that says I’m only looking for Mr. Right Now?

Sooo.. Anyone out there want sex? Anyone? Hello? Just for fun?

I am not going to die a virgin. One way or another I am going to make this happen.

Hey, what have I got to lose?

Besides the obvious.

REVIEW:

“The rumor about boys finding virgins sexy was a LIE. It was just some medieval bullshit that old people said to try and make their daughters keep their legs crossed and not get pregnant”

First of all, Virgin is not Erotica. And honestly, I wonder why it wasn’t shelved as Erotica. I mean, yeah, it wasn’t really focused on sex scenes but the language…. and there’s actually a chapter dedicated on teaching someone how to give a proper Blow.. gift (If you’ll read the book, you’ll get this joke) Anyway, I’m not an expert when it comes to this thing so I’m just going to say that Virgin is not for everybody. That’s for sure. Some might get offended or get turned off, but some (like me) will be totally surprised and will like it  because despite of its crude and malicious language and content… It’s honest. And it’s freaking hilarious! Okay, so there’s  a lot of cringe worthy moments like.. MINI SPOILERS! SKIP THE GIF’s!

SHE ACCIDENTALLY CUT HER CLITORIS.

Ellie, a 20 year-old virgin is a Riot! I love her, but she frustrates me a lot of times. Her last senior in UNI is all about one thing: losing her virginity. She doesn’t even care to whom! She just want it gone. Being a virgin is like a disease to her, she can’t really be a ‘normal’ person and she doesn’t feel like she ‘belong’ when she’s still a virgin. So I guess you can see why I’m frustrated here. Okay.. maybe not. It’s just, Ellie is so consumed with the idea that she’s an embarrassment to humanity just because she was a virgin. And because of that, she became miserable and desperate and pathetic.. Even her bestfriend confronted her for it.

“You have your friends, you’re doing well at uni—but you’re just obsessed  with finding a guy and losing your virginity. If you forgot about that for one second, you might actually enjoy your final year instead of freaking out the whole time”

See? I personally believe that being a virgin isn’t something to made fun of. And being NOT A VIRGIN is alsonot something you should be ashamed about . It’s every girls personal decision. This is why I’m sick of girls bringing down other girls. WE BELONG IN THE SAME SPECIES. Stop with the shaming! Of any kind.

“Life as an adult virgin is more complicated than you might think. Obviously it is normal, there are thousands of us, and there is  absolutely nothing wrong with it. Choosing when to have sex is  a completely individual decision, and everyone is different. Some people choose to wait till marriage, and some just want to wait  for the right person. Others are religious, and others are just too busy being successful in every other area of their lives to worry  about something as minor as intercourse.”

Other than my little frustration there at Ellie, I have nothing but fascination for this book. Ellie is… US, or we all have been her at one point of our lives. Gosh, I think I’m still in that stage. When I say that stage, it’s when you’re figuring out things.. uhm, I think you know what things I’m talking about. Anyway, I AM 18. I’m not saying I’m innocent and doesn’t know anything, but, I’m not an expert either. All I know about sex and dildos and vibrators and blow…gift are from books! Okay, now I want to stop typing. I’m laughing so hard now at my realizations. All I want to say is, I LEARNED A LOT FROM THIS BOOK. Though there are some things that I’d rather not learn, I’m still grateful. I just noticed that in our society now that we have all this magazine for GUYS and it’s informative for them, but how about for Women? Sure, we still have Cosmo.. But seriously, Cosmo have like, a gazillion advice that (in personal experience and from others) didn’t work quite well.

“Magazines are just hypocritical. They’re meant to tackle female issues but none of them write  about how awkward it is to shave your vagina. They don’t even  rate hair removal products for how well they work on the bikini zone. They just focus on the safe zones like legs and underarms. It drives me crazy.” Emma’s eyes lit up in excitement. “Oh, my God. We need to  publicize this to the world. We need to be the new teenage agony aunts to help all those thirteen-year-olds figure out how to de-hair their vaginas”

I’m going to focus on the characters in this review because it’s just plain phenomenal. I’ve never been so close at female characters like this before and I feel like I’m always part of their conversation. These girls might be your bestfriend or your neighbor or YOU. They’re dynamic. Authentic. And I think I have an eight pack now because of laughing so hard because of them. When Ellie had a little argument with her bestfriend, Lara, she found herself getting close to Emma, who always have stories about her sex life. Which, by the way, Ellie envied

“One of us is a virgin and one of us is a slut. The two are not mutually exclusive and regardless of our experiences, we both have very similar views on the world of sex, virginity, and vaginas.”

Then this two had a lightbulb moment and decided to make Vlog. No, it’s not a Video-Blog, it’s a Vagina-Blog.. like, a blog for Vaginas. Vagina problems and all that.

Ellie’s journey from a being a Virgin to being not anymore is comical but very real and helpful and this book is like guide for clueless girls out there. No, it’s not gonna turn you into some sex genius or expert but it’ll help you understand and be prepared for some feminine issues that we are going to face.. You know, like, waxing (what am i gonna get? what the hell is a brazillian? wait someones going to wax my vagina for me?) or giving someone a blo- NO I AM SORRY I DON’T THINK I AM READY YET FOR THIS CONVERSATION. Haha! Radhika is a witty and brilliant writer and her book is a gem! Well written and straightforward. I’m gonna leave you a quote from Ellie, that i really loved:

“I only accepted my virginity after I lost it. I wish  I had done it earlier, but either way, I’m glad I finally  have. So whoever you are, whether you lost your virginity twenty years ago or you still have it, just accept it. Embrace any STDs you may or may not have, along with the regrets, the disastrous stories, the heartbreak, the pain and the regret. Because if it weren’t… Life would be dull”

Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett had always been one to think out-of-the-box, who knew she wanted something more in life than following the same repetitive patterns and growing old with the same repetitive life story. But will Andrew’s dark secret push them inseparably together, or tear them completely apart?

REVIEW:

WHAT. IS. THIS.
tumblr_m63kooWDUT1rrbciso1_500
I’m the odd one again 🙁 After finishing The Edge of Never, I spent almost 2 hours trying to understand what I felt about it. My feelings was all over the place! I swooned, I laughed, I rolled my eyes (too many times I must say) and yeah at some point, I got teary eyed. But all of that  I started reading this thinking it was a book about a girl who was trying to discover herself.

1tGG3

And at the first few chapters that was the vibe I was getting from the book.. Then I don’t know what happened but it completely lost the plot that I was expecting.

Let’s go through the characters first..

Everybody meet Camryn Benett. She’s 20 who acts 16, she giggles all the times, calls everybody (especially her bestfriend) a slut and ohmigosh you guys she’s very philosophical..

“I always kind of thought out-of-the-box. Instead of sitting around dreaming up new sex positions, as Natalie often does about Damon, (…..) I dream about things that really matter. (….) What the air in other countries feels like on my skin, how the ocean smells, why the sound of rain makes me gasp.”

402

She is so smart I can’t handle it. Not only that, she’s a down right hypocrite..

“Why does everybody have to be with somebody? It’s a stupid delusion and a really pathetic way of thinking.”

“Natalie has always been an impatient, instant- gratification kind of girl.”

tumblr_lk4sj7bjde1qcdwevo1_500

WAIT WHAT?! Camryn was so hilarious you guys I want to stab her. She went from ‘I‘m-not-ready-for-a-relationship’ to ‘omg-I-hope-he-touch-me-everywhere’ and it annoyed me to death. She did a lot of slut shaming with every. single. chapter. But what I really hated about Camryn was that she’s trying so hard. She mentioned a lot in this book that a lot of people has called her ‘deep’. HAHAHAHAHAHA NO. You’re not deep Camryn, I wish you were though, that way no one would see you anymore because of your deepness.

Then there’s Andrew. A supposed to be 25 year old man who acts 17.

“I leap over the fence and land beside her and we take off running into the wide open; her like a graceful gazelle, me like the lion chasing after her.”

779753

You know, I get why some readers swoon over Andrew. He’s good looking, he has abs, he plays the guitar and he has tats. But just like Camryn, this guy, this male character, was also immature. He’s worse than Camryn. He has this thing where he beats the crap out of something or people when he’s really angry. I mean is that supposed to make him hot? I think not. This guy has some mental issues.

Now to the plot, to be honest I liked this at first. Though I hated Camryn right away, I understood her. I think everybody has thought of just running away. Going somewhere without a destination. But the Author did not executed it very well. The story started slowly to become crap when Camryn and Andrew became obsessed with each other. Camryn became more and more hypocrite and annoying to the point that I think she’s asking for a death wish.

“Oh my God, he hasn’t even touched me yet and I already feel this way? Am I dreaming?”

psychdoineedtoslapyou

“..raising my voice just a little, still too embarrassed to say that forbidden word, the one I’ve always found dirty and wrong and belonging only in a porno movie”

whIEB

Simply put, the plot started great then became terrible, horrible and then it just ended up frustrating. And that ending? It’s incredibly stupid. I cannot… UGH. It’s like the author didn’t even bother to think things through. To be honest, I just decided to finish this because someone told me that it’s going to break my heart in the end. But no. I just yawned, really. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. To think that this is a USA Times Bestseller and all that. Oh and check this very idiotic scene between Camryn and Andrew (it’s on Andrew’s POV)

“And you loved her?” Camryn looks over at me, letting her head fall to the side. I keep looking at the stars.

“Yeah, I loved her, but it wasn’t meant to be.”

I’m wondering why she wants to know this; most girls I know snap into that jealousy-fueled mood-swing stuff that makes me want to cover my nuts when it comes to talking about exes. “Two years,” I answer. “The break-up was mutual; we started checking out other people and I guess realized we didn’t love each other as much as we thought we did.”

“Or, you just fell out of love.”

“No, we were never in love to begin with.”
